CONGRESSWOMAN HILLARY SCHOLTEN & STATE SENATE MAJORITY LEADER WINNIE BRINKS ENDORSE STEPHEN WOODEN FOR STATE HOUSE
Democratic leaders see Wooden as ideal choice to build on progress made in Lansing
(GRAND RAPIDS) - Congresswoman Hillary Scholten (D-Grand Rapids) and Michigan Senate Majority Leader Winnie Brinks (D-Grand Rapids) announced today they are endorsing Stephen Wooden’s candidacy for state representative in Michigan’s 81st House District. These prominent Democratic leaders from West Michigan see the Kent County Commissioner as the best choice to retain the seat and build on the progress made in Lansing
“Now, more than ever, we need tested leadership to serve us in Lansing, and Stephen Wooden has passed every test in front of him.” said Congresswomen Scholten. “He’s been tremendously effective on the Kent County Commission, forging bipartisan consensus around key issues like housing. He has my full support.”
Wooden announced on Monday he would run for the seat after Representative Rachel Hood (D-Grand Rapids) announced recently she would not seek a fourth term. Hood is also endorsing Wooden.
“Rep. Rachel Hood showed us just how powerful it is to send a determined mom to Lansing to fight for our kids. Looking forward, I’m ready to see a dedicated dad and experienced public servant continue that fight,” said Brinks. “As a State Representative, Stephen will be a thoughtful policymaker for West Michigan, ready to protect what we’ve accomplished and build on it, including our efforts to expand access to affordable housing and childcare.”
“I am honored to have Congresswoman Scholten and Senate Majority Leader Brinks’ endorsements. These are two amazing, courageous leaders I have looked up to years. I am ready to work with both of them to advance solutions that bring down costs, tackle the housing crisis and support world-class schools in West Michigan.”
The Democratic primary will be held on August 6th and the general election will be held on November 5th. People can find out more about StephenWooden.com
